Celtic Guitarist Tony McManus
Releases Mysterious Boundaries
Steel-string Fingerstyle Virtuoso
Takes On Classical Repertoire

(Nashville, TN) June 26, 2013 – Called “the best Celtic guitarist in the world” by English guitarist John Renbourn, the self-taught Canadian-by-way-of-Scotland guitarist Tony McManus has built a loyal following with his impressive, fingerstyle performances of folk and Celtic music. In a bold exhibition of his proficiency as a guitarist and as an arranger, McManus now releases Mysterious Boundaries – a collection of classical pieces learned and arranged entirely by ear.  McManus will tour throughout 2013 in support of the new album, with a stop in Nashville July 10 – 13th for the annual Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Convention.

“I really loved hearing traditional folk music and I’m still a folk musician at the end of the day, that’s where my feet finally land at the end of any project. And that whole idea has always interested me, the boundaries between genres,” says McManus of the new album. “What creates those boundaries, what happens if you jump to either side? Is it a valid thing to do? Is it a worthwhile thing to do? The penny finally dropped – you don’t need a degree in musicology to be moved.”

The Farewell Drifters Sign to Compass Records
Folk-Rock Quartet Prepares for Fall Release of Tomorrow Forever

(Nashville, TN) June 25, 2013 – Compass Records is excited to announce the signing of folk-rock quartet the Farewell Drifters. Called “the best of what’s next” by Paste Magazine and “exuberant, musical intelligence” by No Depression, the group is currently preparing their album Tomorrow Forever for fall 2013 release. "We are super pumped about this new record and felt that it really deserved the added energy of a label behind it. That is why we are so excited to partner with Compass, one of the premier independent roots labels," says lead singer and guitarist Zach Bevill. "Together, we have a vision for where this record could go and how to take it there. It’s a great time to be a part of this band!"

When Zach Bevill, brothers Joshua and Clayton Britt, and Dean Marold started making music together some eight years ago, they aimed for the sweet spot between bluegrass and the Beach Boys’ artfully crafted, ‘60s studio pop. Their crisp, intricate arrangements and formidable instrumental prowess quickly made the band a crowd pleaser at multi-generational folk festivals and earned them a presence on Americana radio and Billboard’s bluegrass albums chart; their 2010 release Yellow Tag Mondays debuted at #10 and 2011’s Echo Boom debuted at #6.  For their new album, the band worked with roots pop producer Neilson Hubbard (Matthew Perryman Jones, the Apache Relay), who helped elevate their crystalline harmonies and acoustic foundation with gutsy electric guitar and orchestral-style drums, illustrating that the Farewell Drifters have much in common with groups like the Avett Brothers and Fleet Foxes.

Billboard Magazine has touted Compass Records Group as one of the leading independent labels of the past decade. The label group is home to more than 500 releases across the Compass Records, Green Linnet and Mulligan Records imprints with a roster that boasts a variety of artists including Colin Hay, Victor Wooten, Claire Lynch, Altan, Peter Rowan, The Gibson Brothers, Darden Smith, BeauSoleil, Michael Cleveland, and label co-founder Alison Brown. Bass Virtuoso Missy Raines
Announces New Frontier
7x IBMA Bass Player of the Year Finds
Her Voice on New Tracks

(Nashville, TN) June 18, 2013 – Multi-award-winning bass player Missy Raines has long been one of bluegrass music’s most beloved musicians, but on New Frontier, set for release on August 27th, she explores the next step in her musical vision, redefining herself as a charismatic lead vocalist on a set of songs penned by Pierce Pettis, Sarah Siskind, Ed Snodderly, Zach Bevill and Raines herself.

Drawing inspiration from indie rock and acoustic jazz as well as Americana and newgrass, Raines shapes a distinctive sonic landscape around the cool grooves of The New Hip (guitarist/co-producer Ethan Ballinger, mandolinist Jarrod Walker, drummer Josh Fox and Raines’ distinctive upright bass), joined by special guests including Sam Bush, The Farewell Drifters’ Zach Bevill and former New Hip percussionist Robert Crawford.

But the real standout here is Raines’ emotive alto—It’s an unexpected pleasure; smooth in delivery and surprising in context, it is also the defining element of New Frontier.  Missy Raines is offering a free download of the title track “New Frontier,” inviting listeners to experience her new sonic vision first hand. Work on a New Album Set for Release in 2014

(Nashville, TN) June 17, 2013 – Compass Records is proud to welcome renowned fiddler Michael Cleveland to its roster of bluegrass artists. Says Michael of the signing, “I’m so excited to be working with everyone at Compass Records! I think this opportunity will help introduce our music to people that might not have heard us before, and also keep our long-time fan base coming back for more.” He and the band have plans to begin work on a new album this fall.

“[Michael] Cleveland is as versatile as they come, but when it comes to straight-up bluegrass, whether it’s a ‘bootstomper’ or a high and lonesome lament, his peers are few and far between,” praises All Music Guide, while the Boston Globe proclaims, “it’s obvious he was destined to become one of bluegrass’s contemporary stars.”

Cleveland’s tour de force bluegrass fiddling has earned him and his  band over 13 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards.
